Gravelly Sandy Loam and Tine Cobbly sandy Loam. Any capture of
surface water will occur only for a very limited time during
spring run-off. Most all captured surface water will immediately
percolate through the alluvial base. The estimated distance to
the ground water table should allow thorough, natural cleansing of
any surface waters temporarily captured. All surrounding property
is also very alluvial in nature. The mined area itself is a
"bowl" and drainage offsite to the South is not anticipated. A
large bench exists to the West and North. Future mining area to
the East has a headwall approximately 35' in height. Therefore,
all drainage will be captured on the site.
Recontoured slopes will be kept at an average 2:1. All areas
will be mulched after seeding with one (1) ton of weed free hay or
straw per acre. At no time will slopes be greater than 2:1.
All available topsoil will be stockpiled in a non-erosive
configuration on the site and will be marked with signs that read
"Topsoil - do not remove". It will be seeded as required by the
Soil Conservation Service if the stockpiles remain for 2 years
prior to reclamation. Noxious weeds will be controlled by
spraying.
It should be noted that there is little, if any, topsoil on this
site. This fact is verified by the Soil Conservation Service
report dated April 30, 1993 (see Exhibit D). Presently Grand
County has no topsoil stockpiled on the site.
Grand County has approved the construction of a 60,000 acre/foot
storage reservoir in close proximity to this gravel pit site.
Grand County is attempting to arrange with the Colorado River
Water Conservation District, the permittee of this reservoir
project, to obtain some of the topsoil that will be removed from
the reservoir site. If successful, Grand County will haul this
topsoil to the Kremmling Airport Gravel Pit and stockpile it for
reclamation. Grand County has the equipment and manpower
available to accomplish this transfer of topsoil. If this source
of topsoil is not available, Grand County will obtain the proper
amount and quality topsoil to reclaim this pit as required by the
soil Conservation Service.
Recontoured slopes will be replaced at a depth of 6 inches.
Seeding will be in accordance with the Soil Conservation Service
recommendation (see attached report). Reclamation of the site
after cessation of the mining operation is based on the premise
that future proposed use of this site will be for industrial
purposes. This site is currently surrounded by existing
industrial uses.
2
