Cripple Creek 8 Victor Gold Mining Company Traffic Study
• Future Peak Hour Intersection Traffic
To estimate future peak hour conditions, several factors need to be considered. The
average daily traffic projected will yield an estimate for peak hour conditions understanding
that peak hour traffic is generally 8-12% of all day totals. Based on information obtained
from CCBV, mine employment-related traffic should increase until the year 2003 (when mine
employment peaks), but then decline very slightly (as employment tapers off) until the year
2013 when employment is reduced due to the anticipated cessation of operations. Projected
total employment is shown in Figure 7.
FIGURE 7 -Projected Mine Employment
•
Projected Mine Employment
a°°
750
700
250
i
e
n
W 200
O
C 150
~Repular Employees
100
50
0
1998 2000 2002 2006 2008 2009 2010 2012 2016
Year
The increased production expected from Amendment No. 8 is also expected to cause an
increase with truck traffic associated with mine supply and operating needs, and is expected
to generate short-term increases in truck traffic associated with mobilization and construction
of expanded facilities.
For this study, existing access point traffic was used as a starting point. Additional vehicle
trips associated with employment and operational growth were added to yield total access
traffic. Background traffic on the intersecting roads was estimated at 10% of the projected
daily volume, and assigned using the observed directional distribution for background traffic
at each location.
• Utilizing this procedure, design hour traffic was estimated for the Ironclad entrance as shown
in Figures 8 8 9.
TranSystems Corporation -March 7, 2000 Page 16
