• Installation of the temporary hoist frame, hoist winches, shah sinking platform
(Galloway), and support equipment
• Sinking of the shah using conventional drill, blast, muck, and lining methods
• Placement of shah excavation material in abandoned underground workings
• Removal of the sinking plain (hoist, winches, Galloway, and support
equipment) and temporary shop and water tank
• Installation of a shah cover (intake shaft only) or fan, housing, and drive and
control systems (fan installation) and access control fencing
• Reclamation of construction staging areas
Total surface disturbance associated with the proposed shale construction activities would be
approximately 0.8 acres including the shaft site, construction staging area, drainage
collection ditches, light-use road, and soil stockpile areas. Most of this disturbance would
however, be temporary, with reclamation of all disturbance except the shafr collar, fan
installation (if required) access road, and soil stockpi]e area (approximately 0.4 acres) upon
completion of shaft sinking activities. It is anticipated that shafr construction would be
initiated after receipt of required permit approvals in 1997 or early 1998 and would be
completed in approximately four months. The following permit materials have been
reviewed and revised, as appropriate, to describe design, operation, and reclamation plans
and practices associated with construction of the proposed ventilation intake shafr. In
addition, specific permit materials as noted with an asterisk have been updated and revised to
correct previous errors or maintain organizational consistency. Please note that page 2.05-
31a, as provided in this submittal, was submitted as part of both TR-28 and MR-40 which
were approved on the same dace. The version provided with this submittal is the most
current and accurate.
