' All field notes and documentation regarding these tasks, including pane' placement and
seaming forms, weld test results, and liner repair records are provided it~ Appendix C of
this report.
' Geojabric and Geomembrane batallation
Field-approved geofabric sheets (8 ounces/ydZ material) were installed over the berm and
' any exposed foundation soil at the bottom of the ponds. The geofabric w~s placed with a
minimum of 6 inches of material between sheets. Sufficient tension was applied to each
' sheet to remove any obvious folds and wrinkles prior to installation of th(; geomembrane
liner.
' The geomembrane liner consisted of 60-mil textured high-density polyethylene (HDPE)
' placed in 22 inch wide panels. The individual panels were laid over the ~eofabric with a
minimum of 6 inches of material overlap and no major folds or wrinkles. ~II panels were
' placed such [hat the seams between adjacent panels were perpendicular to the slope
contours of [he berm.
t Lirrer Seam Welds
' Liner seams between adjacent panels were hot wedge welded wherever po stble to form a
continuous, watertight barrier. All seams that could not be wedge weld~d (e.g., seams
between the new and existing liner) were extrusion welded. Each seam to ~be welded was
cleaned and prepared to be free of dust, debris, and moisture that wduld affect the
' integrity of the weld. Control settings (i.e., speed and/or temperature s~ttings) on the
welding equipment also were adjusted as necessary to account for chan~es in ambient
' temperature during welding operations. In addition, trial welds were ~repared from
remnants of liner material after every four hours of operation to ensure that the welding
' equipment was operating properly. Six specimens extracted from each vial weld were
subjected to shear and peel tests (3 shear tests, 3 peel tests) in accordande with ASTM
' standards (ASTM D413, D638, and D3083). Each of the three shear test specimens were
required to have a minimum shear strength of 120 Ibfinch-width of seam,l while each of
' the three peel test specimens were required to have a minimum peel Strength of 70
]b/inch-width of seam. These test criteria were exceeded by all trial weld specimens
1 ~
Snrr Luis Project 7 ~ Ceo Trans. /nc.
nw i~„~nmsv~~r„i<r.;va~~~~.~.ra,m.~,~~~da~.m~,u n~~n.~a,a d,.r Februar}•100/
