The
width of the weir is approximately 10 feet at the toe, and the lowest bottom elevation is
8604.4 ft. This bottom elevation is lower than both the ground surface el~va[ion between
New Pond 3 and Pond 4 (8605 ft) and the bottom of the existing overflofvv weir between
New Pond 2 and Pond 4 (8604.7 ft). Therefore, overflow from Ne{w Pond 3 will
discharge into New Pond 2. Likewise, overflow from New Pond 2 wit` discharge into
Pond 4 based on the new configuration. If flow from New Pond 3 to Ne~.v Pond 2 is not
desired, sandbags may be placed in the weir separating New Pond 2 and I~ew Pond 3.
2.2 Pond Water Storage Capacities
As-built stage-volume curves for New Pond 2 and New Pond 3 are shown in Figure 1.
The pre-design target water-storage capacities of New Pond 2 and Nt=w Pond 3 for
optimizing water management and chemical pre-treatment processe~ during water
treatment operations were 360,000 gallons and 180,000 gallons, respectively. However,
a minimum bottom width of 8 fee[ also was required in New Pond 3 to ~facilita[e easier
removal of sludge from the pond bottom. Thus, the as-built capacity of~New Pond 3 is
greater than the target capacity (300,000 gallons, not including freeboard). The target
volume of 180,000 gallons can be achieved by maintaining the water level~in New Pond 3
at an elevation of approximately 8602.6 ft as shown in Figure 1. The as-built capacity of
New Pond 2 also is greater than the target capacity (570,000 gallons not including
freeboard). The target volume of 360,000 gallons in New Pond 2 can ~e achieved by
maintaining the water level at an elevation of approximately 8602.5 ~ as shown in
Figure 1.
San Lurs Project 2
PAP %ewibmgbanluu.pO4iwvrn r•mrmmiiponJhemim bmlr repu•eJx
GeaTrnns, /nc.
Fe6runry ?001
