Whiteiver Nahcolite Minerals III'II'II'II "'I'II
February 4,1998
RECEIVED
Mr. Gregg R. Squire, Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Minerals an(1 Geology FEB 0 9 1998
1313 Sherman St., Roorn 215
Denver, CO 80203 Division of Minerals & Geology
Subject: Clarification Notification RE: Monitoring Plan for White River
Nahcolite Minerals File No. M-83-194 `
Dear Mr. Squire:
Enclosed please find a a~py of White River Nahcolite's revised monitoring plan.
If approved by the BLM and EPA, this plan will add two monitoring wells drilled
in 1997 and decrease water quality sampling at remote wells. Currently, WRN
has 16 wells providing continuous water level data, and 17 providing water
quality data. Please review the letter to the BLM which describes in more detail
the rational for the proposed changes. Water quality plots (attachments 1,2 and
3) of select parameters are enclosed for each well, please note the consistent data
for the past 2-5 years. F3ased on eight years of water level and quality data,
water level monitoring has been intensified because this is the first indicator of
mining affects, and water quality sampling frequency at remote wells IRI-
4,5,6,7,8 and EX-2, 89-1,2,3 will be reduced. Pages 22, 23 and 23 are the
pages which have been significantly changed, with editorial changes throughout
the remainder of the plan. No changes to the biological section, including
revegetation sampling were made. Please replace the former monitoring plan
with this revised plan.
If there are any questions or need for additional information, please contact me.
Sincerely,
~~~~~~z_
Ed Baker, REM
Envir./Safety Manager
cc: Meeker BLM
Whits Rlvsr Naheollt~ Mlnerab, Limltsd Ll~blllty Company
P.
