Cottony <br />Division Director <br />Natural Resource Trustee <br />The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 116, Paragraph 4, <br />of the Colomdo Revised Statutes, that on November 24, 2004, an applicaflon to revise coal mining operations at the Bowie <br />Mine No. 1 was considered complete for the purposes of filing. The revision was submitted by Bowie Resowces, LLC. All <br />review and comment periods as provided in dre Act and the Regulations initiate from this date of filing. <br />In Technical Revision No. 45 (TR-45), Bowie Resowces LLC (BRL) is proposing a reduction in the subsidence monitoring <br />program at the Bowie No. I Mine. BRL is requesting that thirteen wide-spaced subsidence monitoring locations be eliminated <br />from the program. The subsidence monuments are located on private surface land and on surface land managed by the Bweau <br />of land Management (BLM). The coal reserves are managed by the BLM. The thirteen subsidence monuments aze located in <br />the East Mine azea, the West Mine azea and the Stevens Gulch area. There has not been any mining at the Bowie No. 1 Mine <br />since December 1997. The mining method was room and pillar with partial extraction of the pillars during retreat mining. <br />The underground coal mining operation is on land located approximately 3 miles north of Paonia, Colorado. The permit area is <br />further described as follows: <br />Portions of Sections I, 2, 10-15, 22-25, Township ] 3 South, Range 92 West of the 6th P.M. <br />Portions of Sections 5-8, 17-19, 29 and 3Q, Township 13 South, Range 91 West of the 6th P.M. <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land aze shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle maps of Bowie and Gray Reservoir. <br />The applicant is required to publish notice in a local newspaper that this application has been deemed complete. At the time of <br />publication of this notice, the applicant is additionally required to place a copy of this application at the Paonia Public Library, <br />140 Grand Ave., Paonia, CO 81428, and at the Division office. In <br />order for us to comply with regulatory time frames, we request that comments be submitted within fifteen (]5) days of this <br />letter.
