EFFECTIVE OATE PAOE
HC-QAC-02 0 1 /06/92 80 of 104
'
when sample extractions for semivolatiles, pesticides or herbicides are
performed.
'
Extraction Blanks
Extraction blanks must be analyzed every time samples are extracted. This
extraction blank must be the same matrix type as the samples being
processed. Purified silica sand may be used as an extraction material for
t soil/sludge matrices.
' Initial/Continuing Calibration Verification
An initial calibration must be performed every time that a GC column is
' replaced, the mass spectrometer source is cleaned or repAired, or any time
major modifications are made to the instrument system. Daily calibrations are
required to verify proper equipment operation prior to sample analysis. If the
' daily calibration verification does not meet method-spe lfied acceptance
criteria, a new initial calibration must be performed. Acceptance criteria for
intial and continuing calibration verifications are provided +n the applicable
analytical method.
Svstem Performance Standard
GC/MS system performance check standards (tuning compounds) must be
analyzed daily for volatile and semivolatile analyses.
1 S
R
i
l
urrogate
ecover
es
i
Surrogates are required for volatile, semivolatile, pesticid@, and herbicide'
analyses.
Surrogate recoveries must meet the method-specified QC limits. When
surrogate recoveries do not meet the method-specified criteria, that sample
must be reanalyzed. If surrogate recoveries on the reanalysis (still do not meet
' method-specified Limits, a probable matrix interference problerln exists, and the
sample data should be qualified as estimated. Do not repdrt these results,
until the data has been reviewed and approved by the laboratory section i
' supervisor or the QA/QC coordinator.
