For ease of identification during lysimeter
sampling, black tubes were used for the vacuum line and cgreen tubes
were used for the sample line.
Water is drawn into the porous sampling cup by placing ~ vacuum on
the lysimeter. This is accomplished by clamping off the green
sampling tube and using a vacuum pump to evacuate the black vacuum
line. The lysimeters should be kept under a vacuum throughout the
six-month interval between sampling. Lysimeters should be checked
monthly to see if the vacuum is still holding. If not, the vacuum
pump should be used to re-evacuate the porous cup and re-establish
a vacuum.
Sampling is accomplished by releasing the pinch clamt$s on both
lines and pressurizing the black vacuum line with a hand pump,
subsequently forcing any fluid collected in the porous cup out of
the green sampling tube. The discharge from the green sampling
tube may be collected directly into the appropriate bottles
previously prepared and supplied by the laboratory. Detlermination
of whether sufficient volume has been collected for analysis,
including performing all required laboratory QA/QC protocols, will
be on the basis of the protocol outlined in Section 6.1.
4.2.5 Pre-Detox and Post-Detox Samplin~„Method: Samples will be collected
after the sampling apparatus has been cleaned accordiing to the
procedures described in Section 3.2.1. Samples will be taken with
a five-gallon bucket from "Vat-8" with one third of the five-gallon
bucket being filled once every ten minutes, for a total of three
_27_
~~
