i
' 2.2.7 Well Evacuation: Prior to evacuating water from th~ well, the
volume of water in each well will be calculated. Ground water from
all wells will be evacuated either by using a bailer or a
' submersible pump before any sampling takes place. In no case will
a well be sampled unless all water standing in the well casing has
been replacl~i by fresh ground water from the aquifer. A minimum of
' three (3)~volumes of water will be evacuated from each well. In no
case will sampling take place more than two hours aftek~ the third
' volume has been removed from the well. During this procedure, ~~
bailers will be lowered gently into the wells to minimize agitation ~r~'
' of the ground water. ~` ,
~' i
' Wells with very low recovery rates will be pumped or bailed to ~~
dryness and allowed to recover prior to sampling. if this happens, ,
it will be noted on the Field Data Collection Sheep that the ~~
' evacuation of a minimum three casing volumes criterion was not met ~t
for this well. If possible, sampling should take plats within 24 VV~~V,,~~~,,~
' hours after well evacuation. x~~''") p ( ,
M
' 2.2.8 Ground Water Samplinp~ ethod; Samples will be obtaineQ after the
procedures described in Sections 2.2.1, 2.2.6 and 2.2.7 are
' completed. Samples will be taken using a bailer or a submersible
pump. Bailers and pumps will be cleaned in accordance with
cleaning procedures outlined in Section 2.2.1. Care will be taken
to prevent bailers, pumps or appurtenant apparatus from coming into
contact with any contaminated surface.
' Ground water samples will be poured from the bailers or pump
' discharge directly into a bucket until sufficient quantity has been
collected. This composite sample will then be poured direectly into
bottles previously prepared and supplied by the laboratory.
Pouring will be accomplished in a manner that will minimize
agitation of samples.
-14-
