Cripple Creek & Victor Gold >tilining Company October 3, 2003
~Ir. Ron Roberts -2- 003-2203
Portions of the (finer extension will remain uncovered afrer construction for flow conveyance. The
containment berm will be constructed of Structural Fill (SF) with nominal 2.x:1 {H:V) side scopes.
Tne eastern face of the berm will be tined (SLF and geomembrane).
As part of the liner extension, the existing Phase I Leak Detection Trench (LDT) will be extended and
the Leak Detection Sumo will be re-Located from within the Phase I limits to outside the limits of the
liner extension. The LDT will be extended at a minimum one percent ;lope.
TEC;3t`+ZCAL SPECIFICATIOYS
Technical specifications for the liner extension materials (geomembrane liners, Soil Liner Fill, site
grading, etc.) have been provided previously in "Technical Specifications for Cresson Project, Valley
Leach Facility, Phase N Design," which was issued in Mazch 2001. In general, these technical
specifications will apply, with the following modifications:
• The liner extension does not need to be covered with Drain Cover Fill (DCF). DCF is
only required where ore placement will occur. The liner wiII be covered in areas
where access roads are to be developed. The fill material for access roads will consist
of suitable free-draining materials. Highway compatible rubber-tired construction
equipment should not travel ovec geomembrane unless an approximate thickness of
36 inches offree-draining material has been placed over the liner. Light truck aaffic
will require approximately 24 inches of fill. These thicknesses are approximate based
on field conditions and intended use;
• The minimum liner overlap between the existing liner and the Liner extension can be
1 foot, since this seam will not be subjected to high ore loads;
• The ma~timum slope of 2H: I V can be used for the extension azea, since ore will not
be stacked against the extension slopes.
DR~WL`tGS
Drawings showing the general Layout, sections, and details for the Containment Liner Extension aze
included in Attachment A. Drawing 1 includes the grading plan and sections for the liner extension,
and Drawing 2 includes typical details and typical sections. The drawings provide a template for
construction and the actual layout will be finalized in the field.
CLOSURE
If you should have any questions or comments regarding the design or construction drawings, please
call me at (303) 930-0540.
Sincerely,
GOLDER?,SSOCIATES, li`IC.
r-'
J .Lupo, Ph.D., P.E.
Sr. Project iVtanager
KFivf/JFLJdIs
Attachment A -Drawings
Associates
