Operator's Outline
4. Woody Plant Replanting -Excessive mortality of woody plants should •
be promptly corrected by identification of the cause of mortality and
replanting as needed after corcecting the cause if the cause was not
inherent in the plants themselves.
5. Nutritional supplementation
a. If the qualitative or quantitative examination shows nutritional
deficiencies supplementation should be provided.
b. If the vegetation is less than two years old, supplementation
between late September and late October will be most effective.
c. If the vegetation is over two years old, supplementation c:an be
provided in either spring or fall or both, if necessary.
d. Supplementation should only be with those nutrients that are
indicated as being deficient.
e. Soil testing can help identify the amount of nutrient needed, but
should not be relied upon for indicating a need, especially for
nitrogen.
f. A need for supplementation should always be based upon the
growth form and physiological indicators of the plants
themselves.
g. Over fertilization can create severe problems with the proper
development of a high diversity vegetation and can contribute to
an ultimate collapse of the revegetation program.
IX.
