DAp; of jaAMall~ oDrceS'DN <br />Willow Creek Mine - File No. M-84-057 <br />In response to your request for further informa- <br />tion on our application for a Limited Impact Permit for the <br />Willow Creek Mine, the following comments should satisfy <br />your inquiries and keep the permitting cycle on schedule. <br />MINING PLAN <br />Item 1. Salvage of topsoil. <br />Exhibit D, Soils and Vegetation, accompanying our <br />application, discusses the thickness of topsoil <br />present. To reiterate, "The surface layer is <br />dark-brown gravelly, sandy loam about 5 inches <br />thick. The underlying layer is dark-brown, <br />gravelly, sandy loam about 4 inches thick." The <br />combination of these two layers, approximately <br />9 inches thick, constitutes the topsoil in the <br />area as verified by the U.S. Department of <br />Agriculture's Soil Conservation Service report <br />entitled "Soil Survey of Chaffee-Lake Area, <br />Colorado. <br />Mining operations have been conducted on this <br />site prior to Mr. Jelen's acquisition of the <br />properties. Topsoil is now stockpiled at the <br />northeast end of the pit and has been stabilized <br />by seeding. Our plans call for the removal of <br />additional overburden to expose placer gravels in <br />an area approximately 150 feet by 150 feet. The <br />total volume of topsoil removed (including that <br />already stockpiled) is about 16,875 cubic feet or <br />625 cubic yards. All of this material will be <br />
