Lung
RE: Preliminary Adequacy Review; Minor Revision No. 114; Weston~~~o~~e~~n~
Mine; Permit No. C-80-007
Dear Mr. Barbe;
The Division has reviewed Mountain Coal Company's (MCC) application
for a minor revision to install a pump at FW-1 and install two
pipelines, one of which will convey treated water to the existing
potable water tank, bath house, and surface facilities; and the
other will convey raw water to the mine portal. These pipelines
will replace existing buried pipe lines. The Division has the
following adequacy questions which should be addressed as soon as
possible as the Division's proposed decision is due March 13, 1994:
1. Will the existing mine water line and potable water line
remain in place, or will it be removed prior to
installation of the new line?
2. What is the purpose of the thrust blocks? How many will
be installed? Where exactly will they be placed? Also,
please provide a sketch of the thrust blocks to assist
the Division in visualizing this structure.
3. Are the supports for the pipe line footers of slabs? The
estimate provided by MCC estimates a cost for "Concrete
Footers - Slabs for HDPE and Steel Pipe". The Division
utilizes different costs depending on whether the
structure is a footer or a slab. Please provide a sketch
of the supports for the pipe line.
4. What is the depth and width of the concrete footers, or
the concrete slab?
5. Is the pipe adjacent to FW-1 buried or on the surface?
The Division assumed the pipe was on the surface when
estimating linear feet of pipe.
6. What is the diameter of the PVC or HDPE for the mine
water line and the potable water line?
