We
have the following comments and recommendations on this application
Reclamation Plan ~' , . ~ . ,i• ~ . - , -.~ ~,. _......„, r.;,, ..
Water StorageReservoif~ -~~ `~ ';~ "~ ,~,'~ i,~. ~,;.~:,, ..
Exhibit E Reclamation Plan states that reservoir side slopes left by the mining operation will be
reclaimed similar to the original permit application, that is 3H:1 V or less slopes. It is
recommended that the final reservoir slopes be no steeper than 3:1, and preferably less steep, to
permit eventual use of the reclaimed reservoir by wildlife. Steep slopes such as 3:1 can'
discourage wildlife from approaching and using the water body.
T~soil
The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NAGS) recommends that, iftopsoit is stockpiled
over 30 days, it be seeded immediately to protect it. Stockpiled topsoil should be graded with
finished slopes not to exceed 4H:1 V. The topsoil should be seeded as soon as possible to avoid
soil erosion from wind and water, as well as from a weed standpoint. Weeds aze very invasive
and move onto disturbed azeas very quickly. Some of these can be noxious weeds and requve
control based on the state noxious weed list. Through immediate seeding to promote temporary
'cover, the oppoituriity for weed invasion will be less, as will the potential for erosion.
~l' a cf _:i^r'~:": 1-t:"ae
Stockpiled topsoil used in reclamation within 5 years should be seeded with temporary cover
,vegetation such as Luna Pubescent Wheatgrass and/or Intermediate Wheatgrass that will
establish readily and quickly ~ Topsoil~that will 6e stockpiled for`more than 5 yeazs should be
seeded with the reclamation native grass, wildflower and shrub mix shown in Table A:
The Natural Resources Conservation Service provides leadership in a partnership effort to help people
