CO 80202-5733 <br />Re: West Elk Mine (Permit No. C-80-007) <br />Technical Revision Application No. 88 (TR-88) <br />Revision of Hydrologic Monitoring Program <br />Dear Mr. Kline: <br />The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33. Section 116, <br />Paragraph 4, of [he Colorado Revised Statutes, that on February 9, 1999, an application to revise coal mining <br />operations at the West Elk Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. The revision was submitted by <br />Mountain Coal Company, LLC. All review and comment periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations initiate <br />from this date of filing. <br />MCC proposes an update and revision of their hydrologic monitoring program. <br />The underground coal mining operation is on land located approximately 9 miles east of Paonia, Colorado. The <br />permit area is further described as follows: <br />Portions or all of Sections 9, 10, ] 5, 17, I8, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 34, 35, and 36, Township <br />13 South, Range 90 Wes[ of the 6th P.M.; and porcions or all of Sections 23, 24, 25, and 26. Township 13 South, <br />Range 9l West of the 6th P.M. <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle maps of Somerset and Bowie. <br />A copy of [he technical revision application is available for public inspection at the Gunnison County Courthouse, <br />200 E Virginia, Gunnison, CO 81230, and a[ the Division office. For additional information or to provide written <br />comments, contact the Division of Minerals and Geology, Room 215, 1313 Sherman Street, Denver, Colorado 80203, <br />(303) 866-367. In order for us to comply with regulatory time frames, we request that comments be submitted <br />within fifteen (15) days of this letter.
