Whether
natural, or purposeful, is unknown.
Features: The head of this anthropomorph is broad, generally round, with
a flattened top. A short neck connects it to a broad shouldered, trapezoidal
body.
This anthropomorph has a "mouth", arms, three-fingered hands, possible legs
and possible feet. The "mouth" is slightly different from those on the remaining
three figures. It consists of two parallel, horizontal rows of six "teeth" each.
Each "tooth" is a small, short, vertically oriented, abraded line.
This figure also has a horizontal band across the center of the mid-torso.
This band has been produced by slight abrasion of the pigmented surface,
producing a lighter area, but one with the same color value as the surrounding
pigmented area.
The legs and feet on this figure are problematical. Because the lowest
parts of the figure have been removed by exfoliation, it is not possible to
conclusively determine the nature of the lowest parts of this figure. It
appears, from what remains, to have two legs, simply continuations of the lateral
body lines, and to have feet produced by a continuous band of pigment running
across the bottom of the legs, even with the right leg, but continuing past the
left leg.
The arms are very short, with small three-fingered hands. The fingers,
too, are short and splayed. The arms are oriented slightly downward, giving the
impression of hunched shoulders. ,
Impacts/vandalism: Impacts to this figure include bullet impact marks,
recent inscriptions, erosion and cracking of the cliff face, and removal of large
slab(s) from the cliff face.
Four small bullet impact marks are found on the head and upper torso. One
large bullet impact mark (probably multiple shots) is found just above the head.
The large piece of missing cliff face (on which the missing parts of Figure
1 were located) comes to the right edge of this figure and has removed the end
of the left foot. A small crack extends from this break into the left side of
the upper torso for a short distance.
The initials "W.M." are found across the right leg of the figure. These
have been scratched, with a hard, pointed instrument.
Comments: This is currently the largest of the three painted figures and
is the most visible From some distance away.
FIGURE 3:
Type of Figure: Athropomorph
Condition: Figure 3 is nearly complete. Erosion of the face of the cliff,
and possible fading, have obliterated the lowermost parts of this figure.
Medium: Painted. Figure appears to have been produced by rubbing a
mineral pigment onto the unaltered surface of the rock. Pigment may have been
hematite. No direction of rubbing is apparent. All of this figure is relatively
faint; the lower legs become so faint as to be indiscernible. Color is reddish
brown (2.5YR 4/4 and 5/4). The "mouth" and "teeth" are grooved.
Features: This anthropomorph has a rounded head on a very short neck, a
"mouth", a trapezoidal body, short stubby arms, and legs. The head is broad and
very slightly Flattened, though not to the extent of the others in this panel.
The body is relatively short end broad shouldered and trapezoidal in shape. The
arms are very short, the right one consisting only of a short extension of the
