During preparation of the application,
Peabody contracted with Metcalf Archaeological
Consultants, Inc. (MAC), to conduct archaeological
clearance activities in proposed permit expansion
areas that had not been previously surveyed. The
survey of the proposed expansion areas resulted in
the re-evaluation of previously recorded Site
5RT118.
Site 5RT118 was originally recorded in 1979, and
consisted of anthropomorphic rock art figures. Not
recorded in 1979 was a scatter of fire-cracked rock
and potential hearth areas below the rock art
panel. In MAC's opinion, Site SRT118 is
significant. They further recommend testing and
documentation should the area be impacted by mining
or associated activities.
