cleaned in accordance with the procedures described in Section
' 3.2.1. Grab samples will be obtained from the upper impoundment
area, the lower impoundment area and the collection pond feeder
ditch using a large, clean bucket capable of holding a volume in
' excess of that of the entire volume of the water sample to be
collected. In this way, the entire water sample can be collected
at one time and split into the individual bottles for specific
analyses for WAD and total cyanide, as well as the five metal
species. For the collection pond feeder ditch, the sample should
be taken from the main flow of the ditch.
Temperature measurements will be made in the field for each of
these process samples, in accordance with Section 3.2.5.
1
Prior to filtering the sample,. each sample should be tested with
' lead acetate paper to determine if sulfide is present. If sulfide
is determined to be present, it shall be removed by the addition of
' cadmium nitrate powder until a negative spot-test is obtained.
Once it has been determined that either sulfide is not present, or
' it has been removed by the addition of cadmium nitrate, the sample
is then filtered through a 0.45-micron filter, and tthe aqueous
solution is collected and preserved with sodium hydroxide to a pH
of 12 (Table 5).
After each use, the bucket will be cleaned using the procedures as
outlined in this protocol. The cleaning procedure will be quality-
' controlled as outlined under the "Field Quality Con[rol" section (Section
3.3).
Following a sampling series of no more than five sample, a rinse
' blank will be collected from the bucket, running laboratory-
provided de-ionized, distilled water throughout the entire bucket.
Analysis of this rinse blank will be used to validate cleaning
' procedures.
' -31-
1
