<br />' quality in the aquifer penetrated by the well. The general <br />procedures to be used are presented below. Necessary deviations <br />from these procedures should be fully documented on the Field Data <br />Collection Form. <br />2.2.5 Locking Wells: Wells will be unlocked immediately prior to <br />' initiating sampling procedures. All wells will be re-secured when <br />sampling is completed and at any time the sampling crew leaves the <br />area of the well. Access to the wells will be controlled by Battle <br />Mountain. <br />' 2.2.6 Water Levels and Measurements: The diameter, water level and the <br />' total depth of each well will be measured to calculate the volume <br />of the water column. Measurements will be made to the n@arest 0.01 <br />foot. Measuring devices used in the well will be cleaned prior to <br />initial use by the following procedure: <br />' (1) rinse with tap water; <br />(2) rinse with de-ionized water; and <br />' (3) air dry. <br />' 2.2.7 Well Evacuation: Prior to evacuating water from the well, the <br />volume of water in each well will be calculated. Ground water from <br />all wells will be evacuated either by using a bailer or a <br />submersible pump before any sampling takes place. Normally, a well <br />' will not be sampled unless all water standing in the well casing <br />has been replaced by fresh ground water from the aquifer. A <br />' minimum of three (3) volumes of water will be evacuated from each <br />well. In no case will sampling take place more than two hours <br />after the third volume has been removed from the well. During this <br />' procedure, bailers will be lowered gently into the wells to <br />minimize agitation of the ground water. <br />IJ <br /> <br />-14- <br />1 <br />
