Bu//doo Rec/amation Project
Reclamation Permit NO. M-77-215
Technical Revision - TR009
Proposed Remedial Reclamation ! Revegetation Activities at the Lower Tailings
Storage Site
Introduction
Recent site review of reclamation and revegetation success at the reclaimed
lower tailings pond site for the Bulldog project indicates that a few minor
activities are necessary to assure that the reclaimed sit meets Homestake's final
reclamation objectives at the site. Completion of several minor reclamation and
revegetation tasks at the site will also assist in assuring that the facility can be
released in the future from the DMG Reclamation Permit along with other
components of the project site. The following activities are proposed:
• Resloping and revegetation of the West bank of the tailing
containment area;
• Covering and revegetation of selected exposed tailings areas;
• Realignment and stabilization/revegetation of the East perimeter
ditch to accommodate a borrow site for cover material;
• Development and revegetation of small borrow site for tailings
cover material
The following discussion summarizes the planned activities in further detail. A
schematic map of the area (nts) is provided for reference.
1. West Bank Resloping
A small section along the west perimeter of the tailings storage site has not
achieved adequate vegetation establishment. Planned remedial work will entail
minor slope reduction, scarification, fertilization, reseeding and hydromulching as
necessary. Modification of the existing slope will be minor in nature and involve
a slight layback of the slope without significant increase in the surface
disturbance area. Scarification and seedbed preparation is deemed as one of the
key components to assure reestablishment of vegetation in this area. The
general area involved with this activity is indicated on the attached schematic
map.
2. Bare Tailings Resoiling
Two or three small areas of exposed tailings have been identified that require
surface treatment to enhance vegetation establishment and stabilize the area.
Plans are to cover these areas with soil growth medium obtained from the soil
borrow site as discussed below. Approximately 10-12 inches of soil cover will
be placed over the treatment areas as generally shown on the attached map.
After soil application, the area will be scarified, seeded, and hydromulched (if
deemed necessaryl.
.~
