R
3. A. Does the proposed mining of the aggregates at the confluence of
the San Miguel River and the South Fork require an Army (404)
permit?
B. The river bank should not be mined.
C. Please specify the approximate excavation area; 200 to 300 feet
long by what width?
D. Please specify the berm distance from the far river bank.
4. The original permit specified that one foot of fines would be
replaced on the affected acreage for use as plant - growth medium.
Therefore, approximately [(43,560 sq. ft./AC X 1 ft)/27cu.ft./cu.y d. _]
140,000 cubic yards should be maintained on site for use as
plant-growth medium. (Please NOTE: 4 Acres of pond/reclaimed areas
plus 5 acres of tails were excluded from the fill calculation.)
5. It is recommended that the cement wash pond be cleaned more
regularly and the waste material be stored in the pit area, and that
the terrace (edge upon which the basin is situated) be bermed such that
a physical barrier to overbank spillage is provided.
6. Will mining cease and the 3:1 slopes be established at the
southeastern pit boundary?
Exhibits E - Reclamation Plan
1. The permitted revegetaion seedmix is composed of 8# PLS/AC of
Crested wheatgrass, 10# PLS/AC of lJestern Wheatgrass and 1# PLS/AC of
Indian ricegrass. The following seedmix is recommended - 16# PLS/AC
Western wheatgrass (50%), a native sod; 5# PLS/AC Smooth brome (20%),
an introduced sod; 5# PLS/AC Indian ricegrass (20%), a native
bunchgrass; and, 2# PLS/AC Crested wheatgrass (10%), an introduced
bunch/sod forming grass. ~~
2. The reclaimed area adjacent to the county road in the northwest
portion of the main pit was originally permitted to be graded to slopes
no steeper than 3H:1V. Redisturbance of a stabilized area will not be
required to achieve pre-determined slopes. However, all remaining
reclamation is required to comply with permit provisions.
3. The southeast bank of the pit area is permitted to be graded to
slopes no greater than 3H:1V. This is not indicated on the Amended
Exhibit F map.
4. How far will the berm along the eastern permit boundary be set back
from
A. the river channel(s), and,
B. the crest of the 3H:1Y reclaimed slopes?
5. Mr. Bennett stated that the tree cluster in the central eastern pit
area will be left undistrubed, with 3:1 slopes approaching the "mesa".
Please discuss this matter.
