STORMWATER MANAGEMENT PLAN (SWMP)
AND EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL REPORT
FOR
ST. VRAIN LAKE GRADING IMPROVEMENT PLANS
Page 11
• Sediment Control logs are linear barriers of tightly wrapped straw
or soil wrapped in filter fabric that are installed to slow runoff velocity
and inhibit movement of sediment down the slope.
• Outlet protection placed directly below an ouffall from a pipe,
interceptor dike, Swale, channel or other storm drain consists of
stone, riprap, concrete, or paved aprons. These structures reduce
the velocity of concentrated stormwater flows and minimize erosion
and scour. They are used for both temporary and permanent
BMPs.
• Check dams are small, temporary dams of rock, sandbags, or other
material and slow runoff velocity and promote sedimentation. They
are used in swales and channels to reduce the velocity of
concentrated stormwater flows, thus allowing sediments to settle
and minimizing down slope erosion and scour. Check dams may
serve as both temporary and permanent BMPs.
• Temporary Sedimentation Basin is a sedimentation basin that
acts as a sediment entrapment facility with a water quality control
structure. The basin traps sediment suspended in storm runoff,
prevents any offsite transport of soil, and allows storm flows to
continue downstream.
Silt Fence is a woven synthetic material that can be placed as a
temporary barrier along the contour at the base of a disturbed area
to filter sediment from runoff.
• Diversion Dikes are placed wherever there is a sharp turn in the
runoff flow pattern, such as tee-intersections. The dikes force the
runoff to follow the intended path, and prevent erosion and the
formation of unwanted swales.
2. Non-Structural Practices
Non-structural practices may include temporary seeding, permanent
seeding, mulching, geotextiles, sod stabilization, vegetative buffer
