WILDLIFE
•
ilnited Companies
Page Two
1-11-95
•
As an experiment, as we discussed with you, we also recommend
transplanting some of the gambel osk which will be removed during
excavation to the west side of the existing pit. I'm sure it
will take ample excavation with plenty of topsoil and roots to be
successful. If it works, it will provide some instant
reclamation, wildlife habitat, improve aesthetic appearance of
the operation and will hopefully reduce reclamation costs for
your company. I am excited to see what can be done with the oak.
I am not aware oP any attempts to transplanted mature oak before.
Again, thank you and the staff for making an effort during the
holidays to show us your plans and discuss options for reducing
wildlife impacts of the operation. I felt it was a very
productive meeting and set a tone for excellent working relations
in the future. Please feel free to call me at 249-3431 if you
have any questions on this letter or any wildlife issue involving
the operation.
Sincerely,
~--~ ~~~
Rick Sherman
Wildlife biologist
cc: Bob Oswald, DMG
Bob Clark
Mike McLain
Haurice Potter
00J
