~nks and Gesso, LLC
EXHIBIT G: Water Information
Overview
This section describes the existing water features in and nearby the proposed
mining permit area, potential impacts on water resources due to mining, and
water requirements for the project. Local surface water features in the vicinity of
the project are shown on Exhibit B, Index Map and on Exhibit C-1, Pre-Mining
Map. A Gravel Well Permit and Temporary Substitute Supply Plan will be
submitted to the Colorado State Engineer for approval. A portion of the permit
area is located within the 100-year floodplain of the South Platte River and a
Floodplain Permit will be submitted to Adams County for approval.
Mining will be by the "dry-mining" method, pumping alluvial groundwater from
within the area to be mined. A slurry trench that will be constructed around the
perimeter of the property will confine the groundwater within the mining area and
there will be no impact to surrounding well owners. Mining will expose
approximately 32.5 surface acres.
Surface Water
The nearest major watercourse is the South Platte River, which flows along the
western edge of the permit boundary. Final discharge from de-watering the
excavation areas of the permit site will be made to the South Platte River. The
Operator has obtained a CPDS Permit (No. CO- 0038512) that covers discharge
related to the project. The approved permit can be found in Appendix 1.
Groundwater
Wells located within 600-feet of the permit boundary for the site are shown in the
table included in this exhibit. The wells listed as being within 600-feet of the
permit boundary are a mix of both alluvial and bedrock wells. It is believed that
some of these wells may be the primary source of domestic drinking water.
The Applicant will begin a baseline monitoring program of groundwater
depths/elevations in the area before mining and will continue monitoring during
de-watering operations. Groundwater monitoring will continue for the duration of
the operation and records will be maintained by the Applicant.
The Applicant agrees to notify any well owner of significant groundwater drops
due to mining that may affect the performance of that well. The intent is to notify
the neighbor in advance of a potential problem and begin working together on a
mitigation solution at the earliest possible time. The Applicant will attempt to
mitigate the potential temporary effects of the de-watering operations on the
subject well by using reasonable and cost~ffective methods. Mitigation
techniques may include the construction of a recharge ditch for conveying water
to the affected area, trucking in water, or possibly deepening a shallow well to
utilize the full saturated thickness of the aqu'Ifer.
srepecoacb Mine-Repuler 112 Permit 07045
Moblb Prem6c (:onaeM Inc 14 November, 2001
