III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
999
ENERGY, INC.
A Subaidlmy of
au~ cenenene e
rimarmivmn cnupnmie
Dear Dan:
February 8, 2001
Mr. Dan Mathews
Division of Mineral and Geology
2148 Broadway #CS
Grand Junction, CO 81503
~~ 11 x 1001'
'a'~_ ...... :__~
RE: Response to additional comments concerning TR-54 -East Portal Area
Reclamation.
Deserado Mine -Permit No. C-81-018
The following is in response to additional comments from your November 22, 2000 letter
pertaining to the East Portal Area reclamation. The following response coincides with the
issues identified in your letter. Most issues were previously addressed in the materials
submitted on Januazy 29, 2001. However, specific responses aze as follows:
On the previous Map 89 (9/13/2000) the issue of berm locations was properly
addressed in Note #3. The exact locations of berms and silt fences are to be field fit to
properly control runoff as conditions dictate. We assume that a certain amount of field
fitting and design is allowed. Otherwise extensive delays would occur as Technical
Revisions are prepared, reviewed, public noticed, and approved just to slightly modify
the location of a silt fence, On the new Map 89 this same note is repeated. in
addition, locations of these proposed berms along with silt fences and filter fabric
berm breaks are further pointed out and noted. Berm height requirements would be
minimal. In all cases the flows are adequately treated with silt fences less than one
foot in height. Berms will be constructed and maintained to adequately carry such
flow.
An attempt was made to show the designed filter fabric berm breaks, silt fence length,
and logical locations given the topographic details available. Additional fencing and
berm breaks may be incorporated into the field construction as conditions warrant.
Please also note that attempting to show tie-backs only leads to further confusion.
5. Comment 3 already pertained to the East Porta] Area and has been addressed.
7a. The adjacent area undisturbed topography is provided on Map 86. This topo is not
available in electronic format and thus not incorporated into Map 89. Use the grid to
match up to the tic marks on Map 86 as an overlay. The annotation on the topo lines
of Map 89 was enlarged for your viewing.
7b. Cross sections have been added to Map 89 as you requested.
1607 Cowry ItD d65
Rangely, CO 81618
970-675700
Fex 970fi75J399
