Exhibit K- Henderson Mine and Mill Permit Amendment
CLIMATE and AIR QUALITY
Climate
Climate at the Henderson Mill site and along the conveyor route is typical of the high
mountain areas along the Continental Divide. At an elevation in excess of 9000 feet
msl, winters are long and cold with heavy snowfall, and summers are short and cool.
Temperatures exhibit large diurnal fluctuations. Winds vary widely due to rugged
topographic variations. Meteorological data collected at the Mill in early 1997 indicate
that predominant wind directions are north-northwesterly and south-southeasterly;
consistent with expected mountain flow patterns in valleys such as the Williams Fork
Valley.
The average temperatures for January through March, 1997 at the Mill were 20, 19,
and 30 degrees Fahrenheit, respectively. This compares with the 61 year average for
the same months at the Dillon East site (one mile east of Dillon, Colorado) of 15.5,
18.1, and 23.5 degrees Fahrenheit, respectively.
Since 1988, snow depth records have been maintained at the Mill. The average snow
depth during this period is 41.1 inches. The peak snow depth recorded during the
winter of 1996-1997 was 50.4 inches.
Air Quality
The Williams Fork Valley and the Henderson Mill area, in particular, is designated by
the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) as an attainment
area for all state and federal air quality standards (AQS).
•
