DIVISION 2 -SITE WORK <br />SECTION 02290 -FILL AREA CONSTRUCTION <br />PART1-GENERAL <br />1.01 WORK INCLUDED <br />Construction of fill areas as shown on the drawings and as specified herein including foundation <br />preparation, dewatering, fill placement, moisture control and compaction. <br />1.02 RELATED WORK <br />Section 02100 -Site Preparation <br />Section 02270 -Slope Protection and Erosion Control <br />PART 2 -MATERIALS <br />2.01 COMPACTED FII.L <br />Compacted fill shall consist of random inorganic mixtures of sandy, silty clays to clayey, silty <br />sands. Fill material shall be classified SC-CL according to the Unified Soil Classification System <br />with a minimum of 35 percent passing a #200 sieve. The materials shall be obtained from <br />excavations, borrow azeas or other sources as directed by the Engineer. It shall be free of any <br />deleterious materials, including materials lazger than 5 inches, as determined by the Engineer. <br />Oversize rock fragments shall be wasted as approved by the Engineer or stockpiled for use as <br />riprap when found to be acceptable to the Engineer. <br />PART3-EXECUTION <br />3.01 GENERAL <br />No fill material shall be placed until the foundation for each section has been dewatered, stripped, <br />suitably prepazed and has been approved by the Engineer. <br />All cavities, depressions and irregularities, within the fill area shall be filled with embankment <br />materials as specified for the overlying embankment. <br />3.02 DEWATERING <br />The Contractor shall construct and maintain all necessary channels, fltunes, drains and related <br />structures; famish all equipment required to remove water from various parts of the work; and <br />maintain foundations and other parts of the work in a state of dryness so as not to impede work <br />activities, become detrimental to related structures, or cause delays. <br />The Contractor shall design the dewatering system and submit the design to the Engineer for <br />approval prior to dewatering. The dewatering system shall assure that the adjacent facilities and <br />any other work will not be damaged by dewatering operations. <br />Draft -Technical Specifications <br />01/99 Section 02290 -Page 1 of 3 <br />
