Western Colorado Testing, Inc. performed a geologic evaluation for the original permit of this pit
(M-94-005). Testing at 1 H:1 V to 1.SH:1 V slopes generated a safety factor of minimum 1.26.
2H:1 V slopes were tested with an applied seismic acceleration factor of 0.25, as done in
California to test against high intensity earthquake potential, which generated a safety factor of
1.08. ;Colorado is simply not susceptible to these type seismic factors for such intense
earthquakes therefore, this demonstration shows that any reasonable assumption yields a safe
slope. A copy of the Western Colorado Testing study follows.
Colona Pit November 06 S-4
