Dust will be controlled by both magnesium chloride and water. Water will only be used to spot
water between applications of magnesium chloride in order to eliminate any problem dust
areas. 3.0 acre-feet per year will be allocated to dust control, or 0.25 acre-feet per month.
Total annual depletions from the gravel mining operations are estimated to be 13.16 acre-feet
per year during the mining phase.
2.After Mining
Once mining has completed, the only loss will be an evaporative loss from the exposed water
surface which the gravel mining operation creates. The tables on the following pages show the
actual calculations of the depletion for both gravel pit lakes. The northern lake is called the
United Lake and the southern lake is called the Jutten Lake.
The water surfaces aze 26.0 acres for the United Lake and 17.7 acres for the Jutten Lake for a
total exposed water surface at the Colona Pit of 43.7 acres.
Credits
The Colona Pit property (United owned portion) possesses senior water rights in the Ouray Ditch
which will be used to replace water which is consumed in the mining operation or through
evaporation when mining has completed. No augmentation pond will be installed.
Since the entire Colona property will be dried up and irrigation will no longer take place, a
portion of the water rights present will be converted to industrial use during the mining phase
and recreational and wildlife use upon completion of mining.
Colona Pit November 06 G-5
