3. Water Consumption for the Operation and Water Rights
A Gravel Well Permit and Substitute Water Supply Plan (SWSP) is being submitted to the
Division of Water Resources. Mining will not commence below the water table until the Gravel
Well PermiUSWSP have been approved.
The SWSP which is being submitted includes both evaporative losses which will be incurred
upon completion of mining as well as industrial uses of the water for such purposes as road
watering as needed, crushing/screening operations, washing operations, and moisture lost in
mined material. The following text describes the uses of the water as well as how it will be
augmented.
Depletions
Two scenarios exist for depletions:
1.During Mining
During the mining phase, losses will occur in three areas:
Depletions for moisture lost in the mined material has been calculated to be 4% of the material
mined below the water surface level. It is estimated that 300,000 tons of material will be mined
below the water table per year. Assumptions are that mining will occur yeaz round for
approximately 11.9 yeazs. It has been calculated that moisture will be lost in the mined material
in the amount of 0.74 acre-feet per month with a total of 8.83 acre-feet per yeaz.
Depletions for gravel washing operations have been calculated to be 500 gallons per day based
upon previous experience. It is expected that the gravel washing operations will be in operation
a maximum of 20 weeks per year and 5 days per week. This would result in a wnsumption of
0.15 acre-feet per month with a total of 1.8 acre-feet per yeaz.
Colona Pit November 06 G-4
