SOILS INFORMATION
3
Site 3: The depth of topsoil is about 10 inches thick for
reclamation use. The soil below l0 inches is loamy sand and a little
higher in pH. This loamy sand soil material is low in water holding
capacity. That soil material would be droughty. Below 10 inches the
soil would be more difficult to germinate seed if this material were
on the surface layer for reclamation.
Site 4: The depth of topsoil is about 15 inches thick for
reclamation use. The soil material below 15 inches has a pH that is
higher than what has been seen in sites 1, 2, and 3; however, the pH
of 9.0 is higher, but not that high and should still grow native
grasses. '
The best topsoil, at this site, is about 10 to 15 inches thick.
Below 15 inches, plant growth would be reduced some due to higher pH
and lower organic matter.
Sincerely,
James W. Borchert
