SOILS INFORMATION
1
USDA - NRCS
220 State St.
Fort Morgan, CO 08701
March 20, 1996
Dawn Jackson, Resource Conservationist
RE: Soil information for proposed gravel pit expansion as
requested by Environment, inc., Arvada, Colorado.
On March 11, 1996 we went out to the gravel pit to conduct a soils
investigation.
i looked at the soils in four locations. See the attached map. This
is what I Pound at the sites:
1. A = 0 to 5 inches; sandy loam, 13 percent clay, very dark
grayish brown, 30YR 3/2 moist, pH = 7.8, non-calcareous.
BA = 5 to 9 inches; sandy loam, very dark grayish brown 3oYR
3/2 moist, 12 percent clay, pH = 7.8, non-calcareous.
BW = 9 to 16 inches; sandy loam, brown lOYR 4/3 moist,
l0 percent clay, pH = 7.8, non-calcareous, weak
medium prismatic parting to weak subangular blocky
structure.
Bk = 16 to 32 inches; sandy loam, brown 10YR 5/3 moist, 9
percent clay, pH = 8.2, strongly effervescent, few fine
lime filaments, weak medium subanqular blocky structure.
Due to dryness, i could not auger below 32 inches.
This soil was mapped 119 or 112. The sandy loam
properties, here, fit better with 112. For the soil
interpretations I would use the soil found in 112.
2. A = 0 to 4 inches; sandy loam, dark brown lOYR 3/3 moist,
non-calcareous
AC = 4 to 10 inches; sandy loam, brown lOYR 4/3 moist,
strongly effervescent, pH = 8.2, weak medium subangular
blocky structure.
Ck = 10 to 38 inches; sandy loam, brown lOYR 5/3 moist,
strongly effervescent, pH = 8.4, few lime coatings on
pebbles, massive.
Due to dryness, I could not auger deeper than 38 inches.
This site was mapped soil symbol 112:
Ustic Torriorthents. This is a broadly defined unit
in Logan County; however, this soil falls with in
the range of this map unit. The soils are light
colored, thin surface, and sandy loam textures.
