Planned equipment for reclamation will primarily consist of the same equipment which is <br />used for the excavation. Although a smaller track hoe can be used, we will generally use <br />a John Deere 690 or 2000. Its design allows it to bring overburden, including rock, back <br />up hill easily without a great deal of moving equipment azound on the site. The <br />excavator can also be used to redistribute topsoil from the storage pile and spread it out <br />over the re-cornoured surfaces. The bucket teeth aze excellent for creating furrows in the <br />soil to help catch seed and to prevent erosion until good growth is achieved. The <br />excavator can also reach in and around trees and boulders to more easily spread out the <br />overburden and create a more natural-appearing site. <br />6.3.4(11(bl Gradient of reclaimed slopes <br />No excavations will remove significant amounts of material that when backfilled will not <br />return the site to its original slope and contour. None of the original slopes on the <br />proposed sites aze greater than 3:1. No reclaimed slopes will be greater than 3:1. All <br />excavations will be filled to the original depth, re-contoured to the original contour, and <br />re-graded to the original surface shape. Additionally, re-contouring will be extended over <br />adjacent areas to eliminate preexisting hand-dug holes and trenches. We will reclaim <br />additional disturbed areas other than that which is caused by our operations. <br />Light furrows will be left along contour lines to help hold seed for re-growth and to stop <br />potential erosion. Silt fencing will be used below all excavation sites and disturbed areas <br />which occur on slopes of 20 percent or greater. Silt fences will be removed after 50 <br />percent growth is established. <br />Boulders and fallen dead timber will be arranged to give the site a natural look. All work <br />is aimed at returning the area to look natural and undisturbed (after re-growth). <br />6.3.4(11(cl Reveeetation <br />(i Plant erowth medium <br />The original plant growth medium from each site will be replaced to the original depth <br />from the stockpiles on each site. <br />(ii) Reseeding; <br />Reseeding will be accomplished in late autumn each season to take advantage of winter <br />moisture and to ensure good spring growth in accordance with Forest Service <br />recommendations. Soil is prepared for seed by raking after final contouring is completed. <br />Final contouring will be done immediately before seeding to ensure a good, aerated seed <br />bed. If the soil has become compacted, it will be re-raked to properly prepare the soil. If <br />any reclamation is carried over to the spring of the following mining season due to early <br />snows or unforseen events, seeding will take place as early as possible in the same <br />manner as above. <br />1' <br />l~ <br />~~ <br />_i <br />
