15. 6.3.4 EXHIBIT D -RECLAMATION PLAN
Also refer to proposed excavation and reclamation schedule under 6.3.3 Exhibit C and
reclamation maps in Exhibit E -Maps.
General: We plan to operate to have as minimal an environmental impact as possible.
One of our guiding principles for mining operations is to have as minimal an impact on
the scenic and environmental values as possible and to return the land to wildlife habitat
Our total production excavation sites including all disturbances is 9.6 acres out of a total
of 97 acres over a lifetime of 12 years.
Our excavation and production plan calls for opening about 1/3 of an acre per season
with additional disturbances of storage and machine footprint for a total of 1/2 acre per
season total disturbance. Reclamation will keep pace with any new disturbances so that
at most, 1 acre will be open or be just recently reclaimed. On average, 1/3 of an acre will
be reclaimed each season.
In general, we will open a new site or enlarge an excavation at an existing site to about
1/3 of an acre at the beginning of each season. A portion of any new disturbance will
also be reclaimed by the close of the season. The following season, we will again open
additional acreage to a total of about 1/3 acre. Other acreage will be filled, re-contoured
and reseeded by the close of the season so that about 1/4 of an acre remains open between
seasons at any given time.
Sites will be backfilled, re-contoured, and reseeded normally by late autumn so seed has
the best chance for growth the following spring. The year after an area has been reseeded
and growth has begun, any trees and shrubs planned for the site will then be planted.
These sites will be continuously monitored for growth. If necessary, re-seeding will be
accomplished until good growth and revegetation has been established and is successful.
6.3.4 (1) (al Overburden replacement:
Overburden will be replaced to the original depth from original stored topsoil and subsoil
immediately when an excavation site is filled.
Extraction of mined material is so insignificant, no settling nor depressions will remain.
Reclaimed areas will be slightly bowed since extracted materials expand. Over a season
or two, after being returned to the excavation site, the bulge will dissipate.
Reclamation will reclaim approximately 1/3 of an acre of disturbed area each season.
This includes the footprint of equipment being used, areas where topsoil was stored,
prospects, previously disturbed areas surrounding excavation sites, and the actual
excavation.
