6.6.3(11 (t) Land surface disturbance: (See maps Exhibit EJ
Surface disturbance will be limited to the actual excavations and a small area
immediately adjacent to the excavations for topsoil storage. All mechanized equipment
will be "walked in" to each excavation site and travel between roads will be minimized.
Actual excavation sizes will approximate 1/3 acre per season. Additional disturbance for
topsoil storage and machine footprint will bring the total to about 1/2 acre total per
season. In some cases a trench for a silt fence will be cut below an excavation. Some
reclamation will also be conducted each season. At season end, only small prospects or
small dig sites up to 1!4 acre will remain open.
As each excavation is developed, approximately 1/3 of the excavation size will be
reclaimed simultaneously. Most of the time waste rock which will be used for backfill
will be stored on an excavated area, helping us keep the actual disturbance size below
that which is outlined. Mining will progress via a block fashion. ARer a 1,000 R2 azea is
opened, it becomes filled with material from a second block as it is excavated.
Generally two adjacent sites aze excavated at a given time. This allows a smaller azea to
be disturbed at each site rather than excavating a large area which produces more waste
rock, requiring a lazger area for storage and requiring a lazger machine footprint as the
machine works between the excavation and storage site.
No waste rock will be disposed of nor remain in piles on any site. All waste rock is
suitable and is used for refilling excavations,
6.3.3 (1) (g Roads:
No additional road construction is anticipated under this application for these claims.
Trail Creek Road (beginning in Lake George as Pazk County 94 and changing to Teller
County 32) is the main access road to F.S. Road 201 which serves the Crystal Creek
Mining District. Trail Creek Road originates at Lake George off of U.S. Highway 24.
Equipment will be brought in over Forest Service numbered roads, F.S. 201, F.S. 752,
F.S. 752A, F.S. 754 and /or F.S. 753. From these main system roads, unnumbered
logging access roads reach the designated sites as indicated in the maps of Exhibit E.
These existing trails are from 10 to 12 feet wide and wind in and out of trees.
We will use existing roads and/or trails and "walk in" machinery to mining sites which
aze not served by roads. When necessary, old hand-dug pits in road ways will be filled to
enable use. Additionally, existing roads will be minimally maintained by removing fallen
trees, rocks, and by improving waterbars to prevent erosion.
No other vehicles will leave any system or non-system established roads except in an
emergency.
