1994, BMRI submitted a technical revision (TR-18) that modified the reclamation
plan to include backfilling of the West Pit (SRK, 1994). The original permit, the
permit amendment, and TR-18 addressed the specific mining activity through
anticipated project reclamation. This permit amendment further elaborates on
specific closure and reclamation issues associated with the West Pit ground water
system as well as addressing ancillazy components of the original permit given the
cuttent status of conditions at the San Luis Project. In particulaz, the following topics
will be addressed in this permit amendment:
1. Amend the permit boundary to incorporate the azeas included in the
revised West Pit water management plan
2. Amend the surface and ground water monitoring plan to reflect the cuttent
status of site-wide closure and reclamation
3. Amend the post-reclamation land use description to incorporate the
revised West Pit water management plan
4. Amend the description of final closure and reclamation of the tailing
disposal azea.
The main reason for submitting this permit amendment is to revise the long-term
West Pit water management plan as was originally presented in the TR-26 document
(SMI, 1999). In brief, the revised West Pit water management plan will consist of the
following elements:
• Ground water elevation in the West Pit will be maintained at 8540 feet
above mean sea level by continuing ground water pumping from BF-SR
and BF-4 (and BF-3 as a backup well).
• Pumped ground water will be transfetted by buried pipeline to the former
Shalom Ranch, which is now owned by BMRI adjacent to the existing
permit area to the west.
• Water transferred from the West Pit will be used as irrigation water at the
ranch.
• During the period November to Mazch, transferred water will be stored in
an engineered irrigation pond at the ranch.
Battle Mountain Resources, /nc. 2 Telesto So/u[ions, /nc.
P:WVjecu~212-Newmont(SeNUis)\SanLUis~Permit Amendment-WPSI Iti~Ma~ugemem\VAReppn&PD~s~Permi~AmenJmen~v4.doc October 2006
