LIFE OF MINING AREA- Several factors affect the total life of most sand and gravel operations. Most notable
is the surrounding communities' future gravel, asphalt and concrete needs. Other factors include:
^ Local, State, and Federal Economic Trends
^ Future Local Growth Trends
^ Major Public and Private Improvement Projects -
Rail and Airport Improvements
School Buildings
Governmental Buildings
^ Major Commercial Buildings
One method of determining the life of an operation is to evaluate the past demand for gravel resources. By
using the last three years of production, in conjunction v~ith the remaining resource, d is forecasted that the
gravel within the expanded area will be depleted in about 25 years. It should be pointed outthat forecasts are
based on current and past information. Inherent with any forecast is a degree of uncertainty. A 25 year life
span is a relatively short period of time for a sand and gravel operation such as e>asts at the Gypsum Ranch
Gravel Pit.
. ~
USE .-
AREA
IN AC.
°h
OF TOTAL
Existin Permit 120.9 j 77.8
Pro osed Addition i 34.6 22.2
TOTAL 155.6
Gravel Extraction 100.6: 64.6
Staging Area 28.6. 18.4
No Disturbance and Buffer Areas j 26.4 17.0
