North Pit
The North Pit will be mined first. A breakdown of the estimated North Pit areas aze included in
table D-2. Mining in the North Pit will begin with the installation and/or maintenance of ditches
#3,4, and 5. They provide isolation from the surrounding watersheds. These ditches are furtller
described in Exhibit G. An isolation berm will be constructed along the downhill edge of the
North Pit as the mining progresses northwazd. This berm will be constructed from bank material
and most likely will be dozed in_ The isolation berm can be seen on Map C-2. Then Mining Area
1's topsoil will be stripped with belly scrapers and stockpiled in berms surrounding the North Pit,
as shown on Map C-2. The berms will be sloped at 2.SH:1 V with an approximate height of 3 feet.
A triangulaz widening of the topsoil berm as seen on Map C-2 will provide additional storage for
excess topsoil. This berm will also provide isolation from the watershed to the west and north.
The raw gravel material will then be loaded into a portable crusher/screen plant where various
sizes of product will be made and placed in sepazate stockpiles. Dozers may also be used to move
topsoil or gravel. The portable crushing plant usually operates for a total of 18 month intermit-
tently per year, although future demand may require crushing for up to 25 weeks per year. Once
mining is completed in Mining Area 1 the topsoil of Mining Area 2 ~~dll be stripped and used to
reclaim the slopes of Area 1. A table of expected mining lives for the two North Pit azeas aze in-
eluded in table D-3. The life of an area is based on the anticipated annual average tonnage. After
mining is completed in the North Pit and while the South Pit is being developed and mined, the
entire North Pit area will be reclaimed and isolated from construction activity. For further recla-
motion description please see Exhibit E.
North Pit Area Description Acreage
Mining Area 1 6.42
Mining Area 2 6.41
Total Permit Area 12.83
Table D-2
Gugninil2/03
