EFFECTIVE DATE PAGE
HC-QAC-02 0 1 /06/92 81 of 104

For field sample analysis, semivolatile parameters are allowBd one surrogate
per fraction which does not meet specifications (i.e., one acid and/or one
' base/neutral surrogate) as long as all surrogates have measured recoveries of
> 10%. For semivolatile blank analysis, all surrogates must meet the
method-specified recovery limits. Al! volatile organics, pesticidetPCBs, and
' herbicide analysis surrogates must meet the method-specified recovery limits.
Extraction/Method Duplicates
At a minimum, extraction duplicates must be analyzed at a frequency of 5%
' of the sample population (i.e., 1-20 samples, 1 duplicate; 20-40 samples, 2
duplicates, etc.)• Analytical parameters which do not require extraction
(VOA, THM, etc.) should have duplicates analyzed once per analytical batch
' or at a frequency of 10% of the sample population, whichever is greater.
Matrix spike duplicates may be used in place of sample duplicates,
' Matrix Spikes
At a minimum, matrix spikes must be analyzed at a frequency of 5% of the
sample population (i,e., 1-20 samples, 1 spike; 20-40 samples, 2 spikes etc.).
Preferably, matrix spikes will be analyzed once per analytical tDatch if sample
volumes permit.
'
Reference Standards
' At a minimum, reference standards (EPA, NBS, etc.) must be analyzed each
time an initial calibration is performed in order to verify prolper instrument
calibration. Preferably, reference standards will be analyzed weekly.
' Reference standards must be from a source other than that which was used
for the calibration standards.
Laboratory Control Standards
' At a minimum, laboratory control standards must be analyzed ~t a frequency
of 5% of the sample population (i.e., 1-20 samples, 1 LCS; 20-40 samples,
2 LCS,etc.). Preferably, laboratory control standards will be analyzed once
' per analytical batch.
i 13.4 General Quality Control Acceptance Criteria
1
