' 2.3 Field Quality Control
2.3.1 Field Duplicates: Field duplicates (splits) will be collected to
evaluate the precision of the analytical technique. One field
duplicate will be collected for every ten samples collected.
' Field duplicates shall be obtained by either compositing the entire
sample, then filling the appropriate bottles, or by using a flow
splitter on the pump discharge so duplicate samples can be obtained
simultaneously.
The duplicate sample will be submitted to a second independent
' laboratory that is U.S. EPA-certified for Safe Drinking Water Act
protocols, and will be analyzed for the same parameters as the
' original sample. Identification of the duplicate sample will be
recorded in the Field Data Collection Sheet for reference when
analyses are completed.
2.3.2 Field Blanks: One field blank, consisting of filling laboratory
containers with laboratory-provided de-ionized, distilled water in
the field, will be collected for every twenty water quality samples
obtained, or a minimum of one for every sampling series. The
analytical laboratory performing the analysis will supply the de-
ionized, distilled water which is to be used for field blanks. The
de-ionized, distilled water will be supplied by lot, and identified
by lot number. The laboratory supplying the de-ionized, distilled
water will perform an analysis on each lot to demonstrate that the
water is analyte free.
1
2.3.3 Rinse Blanks: Prior to any sampling, and at every fifth sample,
' a rinse blank will be collected. Rinse blanks will be collected
from each component of the sampling equipment, e.g. bailer, barrel
filter and filling bucket.
' -19-
