Please find below Lafarge West, Inc.'s (Lafazge) response to each item listed
in your letter.
ITEM I - On June 13, 2003, the Division approved the release of AREA A in AR-01. This AR
reduced the total acreage for the permit from 149 acres to 135 acres. In TR-02, Exhibits C and
F (Pre-Mining and Mine Plan Map and Reclamation Plan Map) do not reflect the acreage
reduction. Please resubmit Exhibits C and F to show the new permit boundaries following the
acreage reduction.
Exhibits C and F have been modified to indicate the release of AREA A resulting from the
approval of AR-O1 and reducing the permitted acreage to 135 acres as described above. A
revised copy of Exhibit A is located in Appendix A of this letter.
ITEM 2 -The mining plan indicates that topsoil and overburden will be stockpiled within the
mining area. However, no topsoil/overburden stockpiles are shown on Exhibit C, Pre-Mining
and Mine Plan Map. Please include locations of topsoil/overburden stockpiles when
resubmitting Exhibit C as requested in Item No. 1 above.
As explained in EXHIBIT D -MINING PLAN of TR-02, stockpiles of topsoil and overburden
will be stored in the previously mined AREA D. Lafarge has not indicated an exact location of
the stockpiles within AREA D because one has not yet been determined. However, we anticipate
these stockpiles will be located along the southern boundary of AREA D to provide a visual
barrier. Lafarge will properly label the topsoil and overburden stockpiles to avoid confusion at
the site. The location of the stockpiles will be included on the next annual report map following
the start of operations in AREA E.
LAFARGE WEST, INC.
10170 Church Ranch Way, Suite 200, Wesbninster, Colorado 8002'1
Telephone: (303) 657-4000 Facsimile: (303) 657-4037
