Division of Minerals and Geology
March 31, 2003
Response:
As shown on the attached drawings, the new design of the channel is all cut, with a limited
number of low berms on the channel sides at a few locations. Refer to Figure C-9 for typical
berm details.
c. Describe how the clay-lined portion of the channel will be constructed (lift thickness,
compaction method, etc.)
Response.•
There is no longer a clay lined portion, as realignment eliminated the need for seepage control.
d. The operator should provide
anticipated maximum flow, for
conditions).
detailed hydrologic information, including the
the 100 year-14 hour precipitation event (saturated
Response:
Please see the attached hydraulic modeling study, which provides the technical basis for the 100
year flood event.
e. Does the operator plan to construct drop structures/energy dissipaters at the outlet of
the last component of the constructed channel/creek? If so, provide plans and
specification for construction of the dissipaters.
Response:
Please see Figure C-9, attached.
f. Are there any current plans to construct erosion control structures in the last
component of the revised drainage? Ijnot, why not? Significant precipitation events
will increase runoff though the existing arroyo (the drainage will need to convey all
water from the upland watershed plus all of the newly introduced runoff. The extra
runoff may increase the chances that flood conditions will occur in the ravine, since
there isn't much room for the flow to spread out until it gets to the Arkansas River.
Provided plans for erosion control in this area and specification for any needed
structures.
Response:
This issue has been eliminated by the new diversion alignment. Figures C-5 and C-9 indicate
erosion control measures at the outlet of the diversion.
Exhibit H-Wildlife Information
Item No. 32
The Colorado Division of Wildlife in reviewing your application recommended alternatives to the
diversion of Bear Creek for 7, ISS feet based on impacts to wildlife and dhe cumulative impacts
Holcim Response to Amendment Adequacy Review.doc
