Henderson Permit #77-342
March 19, 1981
Page Nine
fawning/calving areas are generally found further
down the Williams Fork valley to the north of Lost
Creek and one main migration route is to the west
along the Williams Fork Mountains and across Ute
Pass.
3. Please describe how wildlife will be protected and any
proposed mitigation measures.
The land management policy described in Section 6.7
of the existing permit has proven very successful.
The thousands of acres of public land and the
thousands of acres of private land opened to the
public because of the construction of our complex
are being used but not abused. The public is
welcome on all AMAX land except where industrial
activities are ongoing, and, as previously
indicated, elk and deer appear to be using the
perimeter of the industrial areas as a refuge. The
reservoir will not be accessible to the public by
vehicle. Once constructed, it will probably be
managed in much the same manner as our other
non-industrial lands.
G. Soils Information
1. Please submit a site specific soil inventory and map in
sufficient detail and clarity to portray the lands
covered by this amendment. The soils map submitted in
the original application is not adequate to portray what
soils will be affected.
Neither the Act nor the Rules and Regulations of
the State Mined Land Reclamation Board require a
soils map. The requirement is a map oc a statement
showing "...the thickness and distribution of soil
over the area in question, including the affected
land." Section 6.2 of the original application
provides such a statement for all soils on AMAX
property and also provides a specific map and
detailed descriptions of soils within the tailing
basin slated for stockpiling. Topsoil stockpiling
is only required ..where it is necessary to
remove overburden in order to mine the mineral..."
As required, we are stockpiling topsoil in our
aggregate operations. We are stockpiling soil from
within the tailing basin to be used in reclaiming
the tailing because we feel its use will result in
