The proposed mine is known as the Penrose Ranch's, and is
located at or near Sections 18, 19, 20, 30, 31, 32, Township 19 South, Range 68
West, 6th Prime Meridian.
This property is northwest of our property, which is:
NIJ;NW;SW4, (T-91) Section 5, Township 20 South
Range 68 West of the 6th P.M.
The proposed Commencement is May 1, 2003, and the proposed date of completion is
Life of the Mine. Not being familiar with the terminology "Life of the Mine", we
assume it means the permit would be in effect as long as there were materials on
the land to be mined which could mean indefinitely, or forever; and the proposed
future use of the land would be rangeland, or grazing land for cattle, which also
could mean it may never be used for that purpose, as they intend to rdine this land
for gravel with no end date set for the permit's termination.
It is further stated comments must be received by the Division of 1inerals and Geol-
ogy by 4:00 p.m. on April 8, 2003; and, although Rocky Mountain states comments are
not subject to your Office's Jurisdiction, we are still addressing our objections
and complaints to you.
Since we have no information on this matter prior to receiving the PUBLIC NOTICE
from Rocky Mountain Materials on the date above; and were unaware of what their
intentions were, we never addressed and voiced our objections to the local government.
Also, due to the weather and shortness of time, we were unable to obtain full in-
formation on this from the Canon City Court House; therefore, complaints made herein
are solely from. the information noted in the Public Notice.
In the April 26, 2001 issue of the Pueblo Chieftain, there was an article referring
to property in that area stretching almost to Hardscrabble Creek (which our property
has been referred to as being near) which, after reading the article, gave us the
impression that some of that land might be developed and added to a recreation area
which would increase the value of all the property in that area.
