configuration has been achieved, United Companies will grade and compact the slope
to the approved 3H:1 V ratio.
4. If the beach is a swimming area, please verify that the slopes in the beach area
are no steeper than the required SH:1V.
By measurement the underwater slope of the beach is 15H:1 V. By measurement the
slope at the beach area above the waterline is 6H:1 V.
5. Using the TR-Ol map and proposed plans, DMG has determined that costs will
be included in the reclamation estimate for reducing 3000 linear feet of pit slope
to the approved 3:1 grade (including 700 of island slope). It is assumed that the
slopes will average 1.5:1 prior to slope reduction.
As noted in response to Issue 3 a revised map is being submitted with this response.
Most of the existing slopes at the site are graded at the approved 3H:1 V ratio. This
includes the existing slopes at the island and the slopes at the western part of the
lake's north shore. The only areas that will require re-grading from an assumed
1.SH:1 V to 3H:1 V will be:
a. At the area where backfilling is proposed. This area is located in the bay
located to the Southwest of the existing office building.
b. An additional area that has never been reclaimed. This area is located to the
east of the area proposed for backfilling. This area directly south of the
existing office building.
I measured the length of this shoreline on the map that is attached to this Technical
Revision proposal and found it to be 1,325 feet. This should be considered the
maximum length of shoreline that will have to be reclaimed by reducing the slope
grade to 3H:IV.
If and when imported material is used as backfill in this area the length of shoreline to
be reclaimed will be reduced. If the bay is filled completely with imported material,
the length of the shoreline where grading to 3H:1 V slopes will be required could be
reduced to about 950 feet.
6. Please revise the map to include all required details in Rule 6.12.1 and 6.4.6,
specifically: the approved permit boundary, roads contour elevations, structures
(water truck loading facility. Also, the map shows an office structure. Please
clarify the current condition of the structure and its proposed future.
All required details have been included on the revised map that is attached.
The office structure is idle and has been unused since 1999 when United Companies
moved to new offices at 2273 River Road. After United Companies left the Dike
Road location, the modular offices were offered to Four Corners Materials in
Durango, CO (another Oldcastle S W Group, Inc. company) for their use. Four
Corners decided not to use the offices and they remain at the Dike Road site. The
