3. [No response required.]
4. Because the MLRD regulates over 2,000 mines, it is unreasonable to assume that
all reports will be studied in a timely way. BMRI should further Its commitment
to self-monitoring by indicating in this protocol document that tltcy will make a
deliberate and timely effort to draw anomalous values to the attention of MRLD.
RESPONSE: BMR will notify the CMLRD by phone and by FAX'd letter if anomalous values
are encountered at any of the monitoring sites.
5. [No response required.]
6. There is nothing in Dr. Hyatt's comment to indicate he has an acgdetttic interest
in having BMRI characterize the conditions of the ponds ,!Fully. If rite
compositions of the process fluids in local ground water were knoiVn filly, BMRI
would be able to evaluate analyses taken. under adverse conditiontc (e. g. partial
samples or sampled collected when indicator conditions such us pH attd
cottductiviry values were unstable -see Posey comments H9 and tY10) by
comparing them with historical data.
This item should be re-addressed. If BMRI needs assistance in assetssing the need
for fluid characterization, the Division will assist them, if required.
RESPONSE: While BMR has reservations about the actual necessity for analyzing everything
in all water samples, as their bearing on the cyanide chemistVy, per se, is
minimal, BMR will analyze the ground water samples for major anions
(alkalinity, ammonia, chloride, fluoride, hydrogen su]Fide, nitralte, silica and
sulfate), as well as the other parameters addressed in TR 006.
7. [No response required.]
8. (No response required.]
9. (Comment partially answered.] All analyses will be considered to have been
collected under proper conditions unless odtenvise noted. It is the resparsibility
of BMRI to indicate the conditions of each sample to MLRD. Ir is the
responsibility of BMRI to note sampling deviations to dte lab if such deviations
Wray affect lab results. Report of those deviatiots is a. part of the chain q[
custody, whether identified in the drain of custody forTn or in materials
accompanying the chain of custody form and samples. BMRI should commit to
this.
-9-
