Third St, Room 301
NOV 0 2
Grand Junction F7gJd p{g~
Division of Mirtg~+~ ~ Qty
Grand Junction, Colorado 815/01
RE: Permit No. M-198-116 S~vl-18(Wright) Mine, Responses to Questions of Second
Adequacy Review; M-l /
Mr. Shuey:
The enclosed responses are numbered to correspond to the ADEQUACY ISSUES
requested by you in your letter to Cotter Corporation dated October 26, 2004. There are
two copies of all items.
4.A map showing more detail of the proposed haulage road, ramp, and berms
planned for the Pad area is enclosed. Any elevated portion of a roadway is
required by MSHA to be bermed. A berm will be needed along the top of the
cliff, beginning near the southwest side of county road, above the adit, and
continuing northwestward until it turns to Follow the proposed new cut for the
ramp. The top of the old dump will be bermed, as previously mentioned.
At the top of the new cut roadway, where it is at the elevation of the Pad, it
will flatten for a short distance. A high spot, or a small water bar, will be
maintained at the start of the cut in order to prevent stormwater falling on the
Pad from running down the ramp. The planned berm on the west side of the
Pad area will contain this water. The small amount of stormwater that might
run down the sloping (fill) section of the haulage road, between the Pad and
the county road, will also be contained by this berm.
Two other maps are included showing more detail of the catchment azeas to
be constructed at either end of the waste rock/ore stockpile area These maps
show the location and size of the proposed catchment areas. The berms will
be built to a height equal or greater than the elevation of the county road. The
area on the waste dump side of each berm will be scooped-out to a depth, for
most of the bottom, that is 30 inches below the elevation of the county road.
Cotter Corporation -West Slope Operations
P.O.
