~FARG E
NORTH AMERICA
AGGREGATES, CONCRETE
& ASPHALT
Deere & Ault's slope stability analysis confirms that Lafarge's mining will maintain an adequate
factor of safety to protect adjacent properties and structures. Lafarge intends to mine at the final
reclamation slope of 3:1 in areas with a 16-foot setback from the slurry wall. As the analysis
shows, this provides a factor of safety of 2.21 that adequately protects man-made structures
within 200' of the mine. In areas where the setback from the slurry wall is greater than 16 feet,
the mined slope will be steeper than 3:1, but will follow the recommendations in the slope
stability analysis. The analysis also concluded that if Lafarge desires to mine a near vertical
highwall (0.5:1), a setback of at least 37 feet must be maintained. There may be some areas
along the western side of the property where Lafarge will choose to mine vertical as originally
stated in our permit. If this occurs, an offset of at least 37 feet from the slurry wall will be
maintained.
We trust the information supplied is sufficient to complete the Technical Revision and Bond
Reduction.
