Zi~ected Post Mining Landuses
The Phase 1 area of this permit is in the process of being sold. The company that is
buying the property will continue to use the property as an industrial site. The
company is engaged in construction and maintenance of paved surfaces. The area that
has been used in the past for gravel processing and storage will continue to be used
for industrial purposes including storage of materials and equipment, equipment
maintenance and. company administration.
In addition, the western lake will become the new water source for the City of Rifle's
water treatment plant. The City plans to erect a chain link fence around the lake for
protection of the water source, the public and wildlife.
Material Handling
Final grading of the site has been completed. Two lakes have been created at the
Phase I area. The perimeter slopes at both lakes have been installed at 3h:ly or less.
The lake perimeter slopes are stable. Rills, gullies or other signs of soil erosion have
not become a problem at the site. The nearly level topography at the site protects
surrounding lands from the effects of runoff from the affected land within the permit.
No acid forming or toxic materials were encountered during gravel extraction at the
site or placed at any time in the reclaimed gravel pits. No drill or auger holes were
developed during the use of the site. No drill or auger holes remain at the site to
create a hazard for users of the land in the future. The land topography of the site is
flat and nearly level in all parts of the area proposed for release of bond, with the
exception of the slopes of the ponds. Agricultural equipment would be able to
traverse the site comfortably and efficiently.
Water
A water augmentation plan or well permit is not required for the Phase I area of this
Reclamation Permit. The area was mined prior to 1980. Water is no longer
discharged from the ponds at the Phase I part of the permit. Quality of water
discharged under NPDES permits was acceptable. No siltation structures were built in
drainways, so no structures can be removed. No earth dams were build as part of the
operations at this site. All surface areas of this mine have been stabilized (graded) and
protected with vegetation to effectively control erosion.
Groundwater
Ground water quality has not been harmed by this operation. Existing and reasonably
potential future uses of groundwater have not been harmed by the gravel extraction or
processing activities that have been conducted at this site.
W'1 lif
Wildlife use of this area has probably been disturbed by the operation of this gravel
mining and processing facility. The physical size of the site is relatively small and
negative effects of the operation have been minor.
